Ready for Your Love

Gorgon City Feat. MNEK - Ready for Your Love. Another dance house track, that I absolutely love. I often wake up to this song as my brother plays it whilst getting ready. Is a good song to listen to in the mornings as gets you going for the day. But, the song I'm sure will be featured in clubs and bars up and down the country, and will definitely make it into a getting ready playlist.

MNEK is a young singer and producer (he's 19!) and has liked the track so much he's made a stripped down version, which is featured below. This track gives me the chills. MNEK's voice is so deep that you could just fall into it. (cringe!) Absolutely love both versions of this track - it's a keeper!

Rather Be

Clean Bandit - Rather Be. I'm adding this monster of a tune to my Dance Dance playlist as when I hear it I just want to dance. Unfortunately, I tend to hear this song on the train or at work - not the best places to start having a little jig. However, me and the main character of the video seem to have that in common. The girl in the video is listening and singing to the track as she goes about her usual activities. I can whole heartedly say that I often catch myself acting in such a manner.

I really like this track as it is very different to Clean Bandit's usual tracks. Clean Bandit's music has been described as 'fusion' music, mixing electronic music with classical. Although they hate the word 'fusion' which I read recently in an article. I like their music as it is a bit different, compared to normal dance tracks. But I personally enjoy singing along as I dance, which is why I prefer Rather Be compared to Mozart's House and Dust Clears. Rather Be reached number one on Sunday - a well deserved chart position. The group have been together since 2009, but got their breakthrough in 2012 with A+E, and then Mozart's House which reached number 17 in the charts.

I really enjoy listening to this song - it has been on repeat for the majority of today! Excellent track and I hope Clean Bandit have many future successes!

Toothpaste Kisses

Following on from my post a few weeks ago about 'Happy' By Pharrell Williams, I decided to make a soundtrack to my life of happy songs. Songs that can improve your day not matter what you're mood or what possibley horrible tasks you face. While there are many songs that lighten my mood I listened to 'Toothpaste Kisses' by The Maccabees. I listen to this song at least once a week, even though it was released in 2007.

The song has a beautiful guitar and whistling solo. What I like about the song so much is the simple melodies that compliment each other, and that the lyrics don't over do it. The lyrics aren't about undying love or how much you want to have sex with someone, but something much simpler - Toothpaste kisses. One of my favourite lines is 'Lay with me, I'll lay with you. We'll do the things that lovers do'. Its one of my favourites as everyone loves a cuddle! It is a simple love song, with not that many words (probably why I like it so much, as it's easy to sing along to). But in the song's instrumental sessions is the song's beauty as it is subtle, and to quote an age old saying, 'less is more'. I love this song, and always puts a positive spin on my day as it evoke memories of fun and cuddles over the years.

Timber

This Friday I went out to a cluuuub with a group of my friends. I enjoy going out as it is a chance to catch up with friends, meet new people, have a drink and most importantly DANCE! I have chosen to write about Kesha & Pitbull's track Timber as I think it is a great track to dance to. Its a fun song that is hard to take seriously. It's hard to choose my favourite lyric. I can't decide between "this biggity boy's a diggity dog", "I'm slicker than an oil spill" and "ooooooohhh". Absolute genius.

This song has a really good beat and the lyrics compliment in a way that you can't not enjoy singing "I'm yelling timber". I think it's a interesting theme for a song as timber, in my mind, is often associated with furniture and lumberjacks. But, nonetheless, the song works and will continue to bright up my mood whether I'm getting ready to go out, or more often, getting ready to go to work. Excellent song, with hilarious lyrics.

Happy

I may have been a little slack over the Holiday at writing this blog. Think there may have been too much mulled wine and mince pies! I had a lovely Christmas, lots of food and time with family. But now back to business!

According to Psychologists the 6th January is the most depressing day of the year. So I feel the song should lighten the mood a little. This song was one of the first I played at work today, feeling I needed a little lift after my walk from the station I was drenched in a tidal wave of rain! I find this song really uplifting and quite different to Pharrell's usual musical adventures. The video while a little low budget, which I personally prefer to flashy videos, I feel captures the theme of the song and the mood that Pharrell is trying to create within his listeners. I particularly like that a Minion from Despicable Me features!

This is a really lovely song, with a 'happy' melody and friendly lyrics. A song that can't help but make you smile, and excellent start to the new year.

Under Control

This weeks number one is Calvin Harris & Alesso - Under Control. I have been listening to this all week and never fails to put me in a good mood and encourage me to go out...not that I need encouragement. I'm not surprised that the track has got to number one as there have been so many dance tracks reaching the number one spot. I particularly like Calvin's track though as I think the lyrics add an extra depth to the song, which most dance tracks don't seem to have. Excellent track, Calvin hasn't disappointed me yet!

Love is on the Radio

McFly released a new song today on Love is on the Radio. They are an old favourite of mine as they as they have been together making music for 10 years. I last saw McFly three years ago and they put on a good show. They write uplifting songs and while they are very pop-like in their songs I think they present a very different image compared to other acts like Chris Brown who by the looks of things has very little morals. I like McFly because although their sound might not be to everyones taste, and they aren't always to my tastes as I do like a variety of music, they write good songs with a positive image.

I wasn't able to link the new video but it is definitely worth a watch as it features mini-Mcfly's who are extremely cute. It is a good video which does include a good little Miley reference as Dougie is licking a sledge-hammer. The the video is quite minimalist which is very appealing and easy to watch. Will be interesting to see where this record charts in the coming weeks.
